Apparently, I Look Like Marilyn Monroe

At least according to whatever is behind MyHeritage:

Actually, Bill Gates is there too. This software is on drugs.

More Storm Problems Coming

It looks like the power crews still working to restore power for 180,000 people in Western Washington are going to have some new problems to contend themselves with. The incoming storms won't be nearly as bad as the ones last week. However, given there are still a lot of fallen trees that haven't been dealt with yet, it could be just enough to cause some additional power-related issues.

What scares me is that in many of these areas that don't have power at the moment, they are having to completely rebuild the power distribution system from soup to nuts. And I bet that in almost no cases are they burying the damned power lines, which would solve a lot of the problems people are having.

Possible Cure For Diabetes

They figured out, at least in mice, how to potentially cure diabetes. What I find interesting about their solution is that they basically tackle the problem by addressing the underlying inflammation problem. This jives with some stuff I've been reading from Dr. Mark Hyman, specifically in the book Ultrametabolism and on his Ultrametabolism blog. If you can find the source of the inflammation and cure it, then your body can quickly normalize itself

I wish I knew of a doctor like Dr. Hyman around these parts--one that practices functional medicine and actually understands the body isn't just a series of diseases: it's a whole system that works together. When one part is messed up, it affects the whole thing. If I can figure out what part of my body is out of whack, maybe it will start working better. :)

What Is It?

Was having an 80's flashback when I did this…

Power! Warmth!

The power has returned to our house, and so has the heat. Neighbor called us this morning to let us know. Fridge had to be cleaned out from the ice that had melted. That ice, along with cranking the fridge temperature down several hours before we lost power along with keeping it closed saved most of the fridge contents. Same with the freezer.

Meanwhile, life is starting to return to normal for us at least. A lot of people in the region are still without power, though, and I'm sure they are anxious for it to come back on. Meanwhile, we are going to invest in a generator. This power outage thing is for the birds.

How Cold Is It?

Not staying here tonight…

Some Semblence of Normalcy

Nice to do something normal even if the situation at home isn't.

Still Powerless

While we are still without power, they appear to be making some progress. Downtown Port Orchard had power last night, and the PSE status message sounds less gloom and doom. Once we check out of the hotel--we don't have a room here tonight--we'll go survey things ourselves firsthand. Got to feed the cats too as I'm sure they are both cold and hungry.

For those reading this on phoneboy.com, the tech content will resume once the homestead returns to normal.
