Glucometers have control fluid which you can use to verify the meter is working. That said, the US FDA guidelines for accuracy say that +/- 20% of the actual value is considered acceptable.

Which means both of these meters could technically be accurate as the results between them vary by just over 20%.

A tale of two blood glucose meters. Both meters drew from the same drop of blood. Wildly different results, with the one on the left probably the more accurate result. #nt

I'm convinced the bigger our disks are, the more crap we carry without evaluating whether we should keep it or not.
