@morrick I worked for Nokia from 1999 - 2009 and consequently had many Nokia smartphones over the years, including an E61. I still have my Nokia E71, which will only turn off when the battery runs out. I also still have my Nokia N95.
The Symbian OS actually is based on Psion from the 1990s, where there was no connectivity. When they added those options, data connectivity was definitely the exception rather than the rule. Where it did exist, it wasn't always cheap.
Once the iPhone was released and showed the future, Nokia was not able to evolve quickly enough.
