@nitinkhanna remember the business that Google is in: serving ads. The more content you watch, the more ads it can show against that content. So having their algos promote more videos you'd be interested in watching is in Google's best interest.
Of course, no advertiser in their right mind would want their products/services advertised against some of the abhorrent shit on YouTube. That and the resulting outrage from advertisers, i.e. those who actually pay the bills, is the only reason Google (and others) are bothering to take any action against this content: because it cannot be monetized.
Remember folks: you're likely the product if you're not paying for it. And these companies are only cleaning up their service not because of some moral imperative, but because it's impacting their bottom line.
