Lots of firsts today:

  • First work flight in three years
  • First time originating a trip out of BNA (Nashville)
  • First time landing in FLL (Fort Lauderdale)
  • First time in at least a couple of decades (if ever) that my partner and I both cried when she dropped me off at the airport

Thankfully, it won’t happen nearly as regularly as before.

I feel a lot better now than I did 24 years ago.

24 years to be exact.

Two passports and a divorce later, I have a passport that doesn’t include my ex’s last name.

not that I was technically liable for anything in the end due to the divorce order, but it’s nice not to have to deal with the courts to actually enforce that.

Meanwhile, I suspect there is some benefit to having a paid off home loan on my credit report.

As of two days ago, I no longer have a mortgage on a house I no longer own. Considering my ex-wife’s income and work history (or lack thereof), I doubt she’d qualify for a loan without her mother co-signing. Or her mother just paying the loan off.

Either way, it’s one less liability I have to worry about.

the penalty for filing late is more than that, sadly. 🤪

from what I can tell from the transcript, the computer disagrees with the amount of a credit that was claimed, resulting in me owing more money. Will have to wait and see what the official notice from the IRS says.

I've got my legal name changed most places it matters now, including with my employer. My passport, which it looks like I might need in May, will take several weeks since I need a new one, given the picture looks nothing like me.

I just saw that, as of today, the IRS has processed my 2021 tax return that I mailed back in November.

The bad news: I apparently owe more money for 2021.
The good news: My ex, who got a refund for 2021, will likely get a bill from the IRS…with interest and penalties.
