@literary one thing I've observed on Mastodon is that people quickly realized they were better off separating themselves from each other. Thus why you have some instances that are blacklisted on many instances.

In some ways, this is dangerous, because it promotes echo-chamber of sorts. On the other hand, it helps keep the peace, which given how contentious everyone is these days at the slightest provocation, is a significant benefit.
