Not quite, looks like Tug Fork [en.wikipedia.org], which is between West Virginia and Kentucky.

Yeah, the Tennessee Valley is quite pretty. I wouldn't want to get stuck out on the roads in that part of the world, though, as there wasn't even mobile phone signal in some places.

A lot of why I globetrotted as much as I did was my situation at home. That situation is obviously very different now than it was at the start of the year. Let's just say I have a lot less motivation to travel going forward.

Driving more places? Yes. Flying more places? We'll see.

Being free of all the bullshit in the Pacific Northwest: Priceless

Went to a work event in Chattanooga today. It was a lengthy drive that did not involve the interstate. And, because the weather was beautiful (sunny and 5C), the drive was very pleasant.

It works something like this:

  • Married couples (filing jointly) get a larger standard deduction as well as the ability to deduct a few other things (not sure we were deducting these)
  • Mortgage interest is deductible (if you itemize)
  • Children under 18 result in a tax credit

Having just filed "single" taxes for the first time in over 25 years, I'm now acutely aware of all of these facts.

Well, let’s see:

  • I’m no longer married
  • I no longer own a home (gave that up in the divorce)
  • I no longer have dependents (youngest turned 18 in 2022 and doesn’t live with me anyway)

Those three changes significantly increased my tax liability and aren’t likely to change anytime soon, sadly.

Finally changed my tax withholding. Probably should have done it a while ago, because my tax liability for 2022 will be…much higher than it’s been in the past.

iOS 16 also has a similar function, actually. This got a few things that didn't get…thanks for the tip. :)
