@matigo thanks to Covid-19, I went from traveling 50%+ of the time to being stuck home for two years. I don’t know how any marriage can survive that unless it’s rock solid…
@matigo the offer I made is more than fair and equitable. She probably won’t see it that way, but I’m hoping the court will if it comes down to it.

@matigo My main issue at this point is financial. The courts are all too happy to give her “status quo” without any regard to mine. As my lawyer told me, “Fair and equitable does not mean equal.”

@sumudu ln Washington State, there is a 90 day cooling off period before any divorce can be finalized. That assumes the parties are amicable, which is not the case here.
Also, when this started, our daughter was still a minor. She’s 18 and graduated from high school now. Finalizing before that would have likely been messy.
At this point, there’s a scheduled trial date, which has other checkpoints along the way. A hearing is scheduled for July to revisit the temporary orders from February, assuming she doesn’t accept the offer I made as part of a discovery request.
Yeah, it‘s ongoing and messy.

@matigo I dunno how long a typical divorce takes in Japan. Mine, where the separation started in early January, may not go to trial until the beginning of December…assuming we don’t settle beforehand.

@matigo The only advice I can give here is: when the right person comes along, you’ll both know it.
@jextxadore this sounds a bit like what I went through in the early phases of my divorce. There was no “stay” option in my case, and the decisions about my things involved what would fit in my Prius. Definitely no going back, either.
